It can lead to creation of color holographic video display, in production of much less expensive, than today’s displays. By the words of Daniel Smalley, the main author of article, by using this new equipment, it is possible to create a prototype of the color holographic video display with the permission of standard clearness and with a frequency of 30 frames per second. The basis of display is the optical chip Smalley made from everything, which was at hand. As a result, the main detail of the new device turned out really cheap – about $10. Each holographic video display is constructed on the principle of operation of the spatial modulator of light. The light focuses diffraction light for point formation in three-dimensional space. The modulators existing nowadays, are very expensive, and have rather low capacity, a small corner of diffraction and bad scalability. Besides, they have big sound. The group of young researchers of MIT presented the modulators made simply, monolith and at low expenses. Besides, they have new functionality: the spectral consolidation of the color image. Three key properties of this new invention are rotation of the plane of polarization, increase in angular diffraction and a frequency filtration of color. In MIT Media Lab the professor Stephen Benton created one of first-ever holographic video displays, which is working at base of optical-acoustic modulation. In its experimental Mark-II video display was used very expensive crystal of dioxide of tellurium And in Smalley’s chip is used cheap crystal instead of available neobate of lithium. It is possible to assume that this technology can be used as a platform for creation of inexpensive, high-performance holographic video display.
