Mazda introduced its prototype, an economical, battery-powered car based on the subcompact Demio, otherwise known as the Mazda2. The prototype has a strong lithium-ion battery, which actually makes the car by 10 percent heavier than the previous model. According to creators a slight increase in weight would not prevent a significant speed of an electric car 124 miles per hour (200 mph). Other specifications and pricing structure were not yet disclosed by the company. However, Mazda has made it clear that all electric vehicles, with the help of EVS, will be based on pre-leasing system, which will begin in the spring of 2012.
