The World’s First Soft Sensor for Robots

Shokkaku Cube is the world’s first soft flexible sensor element for use in robots. This invention was made by venture capital company Touchence from Tokyo University of Technology. Due to the mild foam covering, Shokkaku Cube recognize objects in three dimensions. Optical elements, built into the sensor, determine the intensity of light and reproducing signals that are used to calculate the pressure when the object contact with of a part of the robot. Shokkaku Cube is an updated version of the robot, presented in December last year.
