“Earth will be a beautiful place to live, a beautiful place to visit, a beautiful place to go to college,” said Bezos. “It will also be really easy to go between, to visit friends, to visit family, to visit one that’s a recreation area. It’s a day trip.”

Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos presented the Blue Moon lander at an event in Washington DC earlier this month. His suggestion is that future human beings will live on a series of manufactured worlds in space, rotated to create artificial gravity, each holding more than a million people.

"We will run
out of energy on earth," he said. "This is just arithmetic, it's
going to happen."
"We could have a trillion humans in the solar system. This would mean 1,000 Mozarts and 1,000 Einsteins. This would be an incredible civilisation," he added.

Blue Moon will use hydrogen and oxygen to fuel a new, 3D-printed BE-7 engine to travel from lunar orbit to the surface. The first version of Blue Moon will be robotic, but a later, larger version should be human-rated to carry astronauts to the moon.

Blue Moon will be able to soft-land on the surface of the moon with up to 6,500 kilograms of weight, to within 23 metres of accuracy. Bezos announced that Blue Origin is going to launch for a moon landing by 2024.
