Comet Elenin C/2010 X1 was discovered near the planet Jupiter at the beginning of December 2010 by the Russian astronomer Leonid Elenin, the Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics. The tail of this comet is nearly 1 million km long and it takes nearly 12 thousand years to orbit the Sun.After some studies researchers found that C/2010 X1 comet Elenin will continue its orbit and it will reach the closest point of the orbit of a celestial body around the Sun on 10 September this year. The distance is about 33 million kilometers, which is 100 times greater than that of the moon. According to David Morrison and NASA’s scientists C/2010 X1 Elenin will never be very close to our Earth, but in August and October will be possible to view it with the help binoculars and telescopes.
