Scientists Have Found the Largest Black Hole

Astronomers from Planck Institute’s Kianusch Mehrgan and colleagues have discovered the largest black hole ever observed at the center of Holm 15A. The largest black hole is about 700 million light-years away.

So, we have an article of top 10 largest black in the Universe, where you can find the mysterious phenomenon. Here is the article.

The data of the largest black hole is taken from Very Large Telescope array. More data is provided by Chile observatory which helped them map the structure of Holm 15A in unprecedented detail.

As you know a black hole is a place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light cannot get out. The gravity is so strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space. This can happen when a star is dying. As black holes stay mysterious phenomenon for humans.

Engadget.com mentions “that distinction goes to the quasar TON 618 — indirect studies suggest its black hole could be 66 billion times the Sun’s mass. It’s still gigantic, though, and it’s about four to nine times than astronomers expected. The discovery could significantly expand humanity’s understanding of the scale of the universe, not to mention fundamentals like galaxy formation”.

Scientists noted, “We use orbit-based, axisymmetric Schwarzschild models to analyze the stellar kinematics of Holm 15A from new high-resolution, wide-field spectral observations obtained with MUSE at the VLT. We find a supermassive black hole (SMBH) with a mass of (4.0 ± 0.80) × 1010 solar masses at the center of Holm 15A.”

The study has published on the Astrophysical Journal and is available on arXiv.
