NASA warned that a space rock will pass through space at more than 15,100mph (24,300kmh) that will shoot past the Earth after midnight tonight. NASA…
One of the most famous telescopes NASA Hubble has captured impressive images of Saturn’s extraordinary aurora.
Space scientist using the ESA Hubble Space telescope took a series of shots using ultraviolet light, resulting in composites that show a wider range of light than humans can see with the naked eye.
NASA defined them as “the most comprehensive picture so far of Saturn’s Aurora Borealis”.
According to www.standard.co.uk “The images were taken last year over a period of seven months, as the Hubble’s Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph allowed scientists to monitor the behavior of the auroras for an extended period”.
NASA said: “Other planets in our solar system have been found to have similar auroras (to earth). Among them are the four gas giants Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
“Because the atmosphere of each of the four outer planets in the solar system is unlike the Earth dominated by hydrogen, Saturn’s auroras can most easily be seen in ultraviolet wavelengths – a part of the electromagnetic spectrum which can only be studied from space.”
The images combine shots taken in early 2018 with ultra-violet readings of the Aurorae in 2017 to show the size of the phenomenon.
According to forcetoknow.com “Hubble Space Telescope Discoveries are more than a million. Studying the cosmos for over a century, the Hubble Space Telescope has realized millions of observations changing our main understanding of the universe. Hubble space telescope discoveries and memorable photos have also emerged the public’s interest in astronomy. Along with pictures of the telescope and the astronauts some memorable science images have become cultural icons. They appear on book covers, musical albums, clothing, TV shows, movies and even ecclesiastical stained-glass windows. Selecting Hubble Space Telescope discoveries from the thousands of amazing observations was difficult, but these serve to highlight some of Hubble’s greatest scientific achievements to date”.
