New photo, snapped by the European Space Agency’s Herschel space observatory, shows Cygnus-X, an extremely active star-forming region about 4,500 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus (The Swan). As said researchers in the new photo, bright white areas highlight areas where large stars have recently formed out of such clouds. These clumps are particularly evident in the right-hand side of the image, which shows a chaotic network of filaments.
An international team of astronomers snapped a new photo of our Milky Way galaxy. The new picture, which was released on March 28, combines infrared images of the Milky Way taken during sky surveys by two different instruments, the UK Infrared Telescope in Hawaii and the VISTA telescope in Chile. As said scientists the photo is part of a 10-year project that is gathering mountains of data to help guide future research.
An international team of astronomers has discovered 96 new star clusters hidden by the dust in the Milky Way by using data from the VISTA infrared survey telescope at ESO’s Paranal Observatory. According to Radostin Kurtev most of the newfound clusters are very small and only have about 10-20 stars.
Now scientists all over the world can be studied hundreds of millions of galaxies, stars and asteroids collected in the first bundle of data from NASA’s Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) mission. infrared telescope WISE take nearly 2.7 million images, with which scientists have found about 33,000 steroids between the planets Jupiter and Mars
