Habitable Exoplanets Catalog

Scientists published habitable exoplanets catalog to list all the known planets in the galaxy that could potentially be habitable to life. The count is at seven so far, with many more to come, researchers said. When it was first released last year, it had two potential habitable planets. According to lead researcher Abel Mendez director of the University of Puerto Rico the team expected to add maybe one or two more in the catalog’s first year. The addition of five suspected new planets was wholly beyond anyone’s expectations. Mendez also said scientists are getting smarter about finding exoplanets, and the pace of discovery is increasing. The team expects to add new models in the coming year, which will affect the measurements on objects already in the catalog.

Asteroid Toutatis Getting Closer to the Earth on 12 Dec 2012

Asteroid Toutatis which was discovered on January 4, 1989 by Christian Poll must once again get close to the Earth on December 12. The small asteroid, consisting of two parts of 4.6 km and 2.4 km can not harm our planet. Asteroid Toutatis 4179 was named after the Celtic god. This asteroid has an irregular form, and belongs to the category of Apollo. Asteroid Toutatis has diameter 5.4 kilometers, and the rotation period is 176 hours. At the closest distance the asteroid approached the Earth in 2004. This year, the asteroid must pass by our planet at a distance of 6.9 million kilometers from Earth.

Rogue Alien Planet CFBDSIR2149

Astronomer Philippe Delorme from the Institute of Planetology and Astrophysics of Grenoble in France and his team discovered  a potential rogue alien planet  CFBDSIR2149 using the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, wandering alone just 100 light-years from Earth, suggesting that such starless worlds may be extremely common across the galaxy. The free-floating object, called CFBDSIR2149, is likely a gas giant planet four to seven times more massive than Jupiter, scientists say in a new study unveiled today (Nov. 14). The planet cruises unbound through space relatively close to Earth (in astronomical terms; the Milky Way galaxy is 100,000 light-years wide), perhaps after being booted from its own solar system.

Asteroid Apophis or Apoph is Getting Closer to the Earth

Apophis previously known as 2004 MN4, a member of the Aten group of near-Earth asteroids which had been estimated by NASA as having a 1 in 5500 chance of striking the Earth in 2029. Concealing the energy of 65,000 atomic bombs asteroid Apophis with a mass of 50 million tonnes and a diameter of 320 meters will cross the orbit of the moon and rush to the Earth with a speed of 45 thousand miles per hour. In a collision of Apophis might do unseen troubles.

Vehicles Are Already Flying (PAL-V ONE)

The PAL-V ONE is a two seat hybrid car and gyroplane: a personal air and land vehicle. What makes the PAL-V ONE attractive is the convenience of fully integrated door-to-door transportation. On the ground this slim, aerodynamic, 3-wheeled vehicle has the comfort of a car with the agility of a motorcycle thanks to its patented, cutting-edge, ‘tilting’ system. It can be driven to the nearest airfield and take off just like any other airplane. The single rotor and propeller are unfolded to make the PAL-V ONE ready to fly. When airborne, the PAL-V usually flies below 4,000 feet (1,200 m), the airspace available for uncontrolled Visual Flight Rules (VFR) traffic; so there will be no interference from commercial air traffic. Furthermore, the PAL-V is powered by a very robust, flight certified aircraft engine.

Jaguar XKX Roadster Concept

Design Studio Skyrill, located in the capital Manama, Bahrain, presented Jaguar XKX Roadster Concept designed by the legendary sports car Jaguar E-Type 1961 release. Brothers Ali and Hussein Almossavi, owners of an independent design studio Skyrill, located in the capital Manama, Bahrain, in collaboration with the Albanian designer Marina Muftii introduced the concept of Jaguar XKX, which is based on the known model of Jaguar E-Type, launched into production back in 1961, and became one of the automotive legends. Jaguar E-Type (or Jaguar XK-E) is very successful for its time, sports “supercar”. Given a much smaller and cooler power plant than conventional, the aerodynamics was conceived in a new innovative way. The side deflector intakes of the front were made broader, so a much larger amount of air does not get stuck by the engine, instead, it flows behind the front wheels, getting out behind them and sliding along the doors and then taking another shortcut through the rear wheels and out from the big rear openings, greatly reducing the total flowing path and subsequently drag. Almost 60% of the energy used by a typical car at highway speeds is spent to counter air friction. Obviously, that is A LOT of energy spent for a function that is indispensable, but not the primary (to push the vehicle forward).

Kuratas Robot Controlled by iPhone

A Japanese company called Suidobashi Heavy Industries recently revealed its 13-foot mech robot named Kuratas. Kuratas is the brainchild of artist Kogoro Kurata and robotics researcher Wataru Yoshizaki. Kuratas can be controlled in three ways – either through a controller, a master slave, or an iPhone. The robot runs on an operating system called V-Sido and it is outfitted with a launcher and a twin Gatling gun.

Audi R18 Equipped With a Hybrid Power

The car was designed by the German automaker Audi AG as a replacement for Audi R15 TDI. Like its direct predecessor, R18 is equipped with a turbocharged diesel engine, but the reduced capacity – 3.7 liters in the configuration of V6. In addition, the R18 prototype the first time since 1999 implemented a closed cabin design. Every year Audi R18 TDI wins a victory in the competition at Le Mans. However, Audi, as well as auto companies such as Peugeot and Toyota, is trying to equip its hybrid cars to reach a new level of racing and try to win with the new power plant. Brand new prototype hybrid Audi R18 has already been seen during a secret test drive on the track at Sebring (USA). The new hybrid will fully meet all the requirements of the races of Le Mans. According to preliminary data, the hybrid model of the Audi R18 will participate in next year’s competitions FIA World Endurance Championship 2012. With the new hybrid engine, the exterior of the car dramatically changed.

Lexus Supercar Concept LF-LC

Concept Supercar Lexus LF-LC was introduced this year at the Auto Show in Detroit, the public took so vehemently that the company Toyota Motor (it owns the brand Lexus) Now think about the mass production of this car, despite the fact that the original plans, the catechumens at the Auto Show, production supercars did not appear. Lexus LF-LC is a flagship sports coupe, which seems to be to transform the brand image, filling its sports “content”. Perhaps in the automotive market Lexus LF-LC will be no earlier than three years, but will be curious to meet him now. At the moment it is known that the supercar is a Class hybrid cars and get rear-wheel drive and regenerative braking system.
