C/2013 A1 (Siding Spring) comet, was discovered in the beginning of this year by ace comet-hunter Robert McNaught in New South Wales. The astronomers almost 74 days are observing this comet and according the observations, the comet C/2013 A1 will buzz Mars on October 2014. Astronomers says that the distance between the comet C/2013 A1 and Mars will be approximately 0.008 AU (650,000 miles) and this distance will be safe for Mars. As the comet was discovered not so long ago, it is difficult for astronomers to forecast the right location of comet after 20 months. All these forecasts are based in the current observations, and in case of new information, of course, these forecasts will be changed.
NASA’s Cassini spacecraft has delivered view of Saturn, taken while the spacecraft was in Saturn’s shadow. The cameras were turned toward Saturn and the sun so that the planet and rings are backlit. This special, very-high-phase viewing geometry lets scientists study ring and atmosphere phenomena not easily seen at a lower phase. Since images like this can only be taken while the sun is behind the planet, this beautiful view is all the more precious for its rarity. The last time Cassini captured a view like this was in Sept. 2006, when it captured a mosaic processed to look like natural color.

NASA has narrowed the target for its most advanced Mars rover, Curiosity, which will land on the Red Planet in August. The car-sized rover will arrive closer to its ultimate destination for science operations, but also closer to the foot of a mountain slope that poses a landing hazard. NASA’s Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE, has been turning up a new crowd of stars close to solar system, the coldest of the brown dwarf family of failed stars. As said Davy Kirkpatrick of the WISE science team at NASA’s Infrared Processing and Analysis Center at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena this is a really illuminating result. Now that they are finally seeing the solar neighborhood with keener, infrared vision, the little guys aren’t as prevalent as they once thought.
NASA believes it’s spotted the dappled light of the first objects in the universe with the best precision yet. Using the Spitzer Space Telescope, scientists have observed a lumpy infrared glow that could be coming from wildly massive stars or voracious black holes. The observations help confirm the first objects were numerous in quantity and furiously burned cosmic fuel. As said Alexander Kashlinsky of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center these objects would have been tremendously bright.
Astronomers have found the faintest galaxy yet seen in the deep, distant reaches of space, an object whose light has taken 13 billion years to reach us. The tiny galaxy, which existed about 800 million years after the Big Bang created the universe, is among the top 10 most distant objects known. According to astronomers this image is like a baby picture of this galaxy, taken when the universe was only 5 percent of its current age.
The transit of Venus across the sun is one of the rarest celestial sights visible from Earth, one that wowed scientists and amateur observers around the world Tuesday (June 5). The event, arguably the most anticipated skywatching display of the year, marked the last time Venus will cross the sun (as seen from Earth) for 105 years.
